Cooking Up Something New

For the last 5 years I have been part of a girls Bible study.  Most of us are teachers, so in the summer we go really deep into a book study or Bible study or something that has some real meaning to our lives at the current moment.  We have done several book studies that have really stretched my thinking and have helped me do a lot of soul searching.  Some of my favorite books that we have done recently are, Captivating, Modern Girls Guide to the Bible, and the one that we are doing this summer, Beth Moore's Esther

This group of girls are awesome!!!!  We have all walked through some really tough circumstances together and have been able to be there for each other to encourage and listen.  I really feel like I can be completely myself around these girls and they won't care one bit about how imperfect and filled with faults I am.  They just take me as they find me and pray with me through the things that I just can't get a handle on by myself.  They have seen me at some of my worst and most ugly moments and still have hung in there with me.

At the beginning of the summer, we took turns and signed up to host Bible study at our houses.  When all of us are there, we have about 10-11 girls.  So we each had the option of hosting just once.  Yesterday, it was my turn.  I spent the day getting my house cleaned and ready and doing a lot of work out in my yard in the morning when Jaycee was asleep.

I have found that I really love trying out new cooking ideas and recipes.  I actually have found out that I am quite good at doing some things in the kitchen.  I don't want to brag on myself too much, but this is one thing that I think I am fairly good at and I like sharing my creations and new recipes with people.  It just makes me happy to think that all of my hard work makes someone else smile.  Ahhhh!!!

One of the girls from Bible study, Lisa, inspired me to try making new things.  She decorates her son's birthday cakes, and they look so fun and good that I thought I could do that with new recipes I hear about.  Thanks Lisa for the inspiration!!!  So, yesterday I made two things that were super easy to make and super delicious to eat!!!

Who knew that this would turn into a yummy, delicious, chocolately batch of cupcake and cookie goodness.

Salted Caramel Cupcakes
These cupcakes were super yummy and pretty easy to make.  Here is what is in them:  chocolate cake, caramel, butterfinger peices, creamy white frosting, and more caramel.  Delicious!!!  Is your mouth watering yet?

Fourth of July Fruit Pizza
I seriously threw this together because I was having a serious fruit craving and wanted to use up the last bit of what I had.  This was also super easy and yummy!!!  This is made up of:  1 tube of sugar cookie dough, 1 small tub of cool whip, 1 box of cream cheese (softened), 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, and 1 carton of blueberries and strawberries.  All you do is bake the whole tube of sugar cookie dough in a pizza pan according to the directions, mix the cool whip, cream cheese, & powdered sugar together until smooth.  When the sugar cookie is cooled and somewhat hardened, spread the cool whip mixture onto it.  Cut up the strawberries into 4ths and spread them out onto the cookie in any pattern you like.  End with putting on the blueberries to fill in the gaps.  It makes an awesome treat!!!

If you are looking for some new ideas to make for your summer get togethers, give these a try!!!  Enjoy!!!
